Topic: How To Find Your Life Mission
January 16, 2015
Hans:
Hello everyone. So nice to be back with you today. It's an interesting topic "How to Find Your Life's Mission." You know if you can remember back to when you were a very young child... if you found yourself, for instance, being drawn to coloring airplanes, or mechanical things – I had tinker toys and wanted to put things together, intricate things together. If your parents are wise they kind of know what direction they may want to bring to you. If you find yourself wanting to do something for someone else, a neighbor, go help the little lady across the street who's a widow, just wanting to give and help people and it just comes really natural to you, that's a sure sign that you're going to be in service in this lifetime. Some people have multi-talents, Alfred, and they may head down one road and experience that but that door often leads to another door. Now you remember that don't you?
Alfred:
Absolutely, Hans.
Hans:
Did you find that when you were going down the one road... Did you find that you felt when you were doing that that's where you needed to be at that moment or did you feel you were doing that but there was something else gnawing at you?
Alfred:
No. I knew that's what I was supposed to be doing at that time in my life. There was just some reason, which I didn't understand, that drove me to go in certain directions and do certain things and leave opportunities that people couldn't understand in order to go in a direction that even I couldn't understand.
Hans:
This is often the case and what I try to help people to understand is throughout life Spirit presents us with what I call "Doors of Opportunities" and they'll... You know you say: Well, I want the experience of this. And now their job is to help you to do that but they also see the larger picture and they know there's another thing that your soul wanted to experience so they put in the one but they leave this little second door, sort of always there, sort of almost like gnawing at you just a little bit, like I wish I had a look at this. And eventually that interest, that bit of intrigue on that grows to a point where you actually say: You know, I wonder if I should do that? And I always say to people: Follow your impressions. They are given to you by your Guides, they are given to you by the God-force. Follow your impressions. Because when you simply deal with the mind and the mind chatter and all that goes along with that, you immediately are in limitation. You know, I know people who are so invested in the way something needs to be and maybe they've gathered around them a group of friends who also agree this is the way this needs to be, this is what's supposed to be. But that can't affix a change for some reason. The reason is that they're not supposed to make that change. They are to use that as a vehicle to change themselves. That's what people don't want to deal with, is they have a problem, I find Alfred, in seeing past their limitations. Have you found this to be true?
Alfred:
And that's part of the hard part... is to just begin with the simple understanding that Spirit is there to guide you to a career, a job, a place, to people that you asked to experience before you were born. See all of those reasons "why" you wanted to experience those things were based upon karma, dharma, previous lifetimes, where you are in your soul's growth. Then you come down here and you get bombarded by media, friends, pressure, and sometimes the two just don't match. So Spirit is guiding you in one direction saying you asked us to point you in this direction, thus we're giving you this little feeling that you should do that. And all of these other social pressures, family pressures, are taking you in a different direction. And what we're trying to tell you is if you want to begin finding your path in life, you need to start looking within, feeling within, connecting to Guidance, to find why you're here.
Hans:
You know Alfred, sometimes when we don't feel that we fit or we don't feel we're being recognized by family, or by work, or friends, we have a tendency to blame the situation rather than look at ourselves. And so we find ourself saying: Well, this person doesn't understand me, and this group should be doing this, and this organization needs to change... And we find ourselves blaming others for refusing to deal with the self in the situation. Rather than say you know this situation doesn't suit me or this situation doesn't serve me. What we tend to do is then become victims of this situation, throwing our life's lesson right to the wind. And we are bigger, we are better than that situation. That situation is not who we are. But we begin to continue to sever... and we build an entire identity around the suffering of the situation. That can be a relationship, Alfred, it could be work, it could be any number of things. But once we slip into that self victimization role, it takes a very long time to get out of it. Don't you find that's true?
Alfred:
And that's a lot of the teachings that we go over is you have a choice and we're explaining to you what that major choice is. The choice is to follow human thought, what human's think is important, what is important or perceived to be important in the physical world or you can follow these teachings to guide you what is important spiritually speaking. Now of course the issue is is because we're in the physical world, the physical aspects of image, ego, money, family, media, that seems really relevant. It's there. It seems like it's real.
Hans:
Yeah. Those are the key word there Alfred – seems like it's real.
Alfred:
And what we're trying to tell you do is see past the illusion. That's why you're here. I think in every major religion they talk about "overcoming." Well, they all define it differently. Our definition of "overcoming" is - see past the illusion, overcome the illusion. Practice being and connecting to Spirit to find your life's mission.
Hans:
Excellent. You know Alfred, I had a client any number of years ago who was like number 3, number 4, in a very large corporation and this individual had worked themselves up from a sales clerk ,as a matter of fact ,clear up to the top and he just couldn't get over the next hurdle. Years went by. They didn't affix the changes that he wanted, they continually bypassed him for promotions, and he began to become a victim of the situation and he kept saying I don't understand why they won't do the things that I know are best for them. And finally one day Spirit said to him: What makes you think they're supposed to? Oh, and then he gave us this litany of reasons why they're supposed to. And then Spirit says: What makes you think that you're supposed to be there anymore? Well, it's my job, this is all I know, this is what I worked for. And they said: No, this is what you've done so far. There's much more for you to do. And he absolutely refused to believe it. And a year went by, and another year went by and Spirit said the same thing each time he came to visit. So finally one day he said I've decided to take a package that's been offered to me by the company. The day he took that package he said, Alfred, it was like someone took a huge weight off his shoulders. Within 3 months, a smaller, fairly established start-up company hired him, heard about him, hired him, for more money than he was making before, with terrific stock options and he's now number 2 in the company and working towards the chairmanship.
Alfred:
And that's a really difficult story. So let me try to explain that because I came from...
Hans:
You lived that I know. (Hans laughing)
Alfred:
... one of those corporate backgrounds. But it applies to everyone. We want to find out what "is" our life mission? But that's not the way the Other Side works.
Hans:
No.
Alfred:
And Hans taught me this very early to say... because I asked the same question for a couple years and every time Hans gave me the same answer. If you knew your life's mission, you would change it.
Hans:
Yes.
Alfred:
Because you're addressing it from a human perspective. The Other Side is not going to give you your life's mission until you are a spiritual being functioning as Spirit, being as Spirit, and then you won't have any judgment and opinion from a human perspective to change your life's mission. In other words, by the far majority of the people who are listening to this, you're not going to get your life's mission, you're going to get what is the next step...
Hans:
For you on your growth.
Alfred:
... on your life path. Okay?
Hans:
That's correct.
Alfred:
So if you're looking for your life path, like this guy, it's what is the step in front of me. And then once you take that step, the next step will appear and that is how you find your life mission. By far, for the majority of us is if you're looking for your life path – okay, like every other spiritual lesson – look in the now. What is the lesson that is directly in front of you?
Hans:
Exactly Alfred.
Alfred:
And that is your path - what is directly in front of you in the moment.
Hans:
You know, I'm reminded Alfred, that sometimes we keep fishing in the same pond for a fish that doesn't exist in that pond. But by golly we're going to make certain that it appears so we keep fishing in it. And that's what people do with relationships, it's what they do with their employment, it's what they do with their friends. If something, kids, isn't working for you, it isn't for you. There are other options, even though your mind chatter may tell you oh no, there isn't, even if your friends say oh no you can't leave this job, oh no, if you leave this job you're done for. No. Because one day that same job that gave you your identity will be taken away from you whether you like it or you don't like it you're out the door. So all the time that you spent wanting to have this thing show up in your expectations was for absolutely no reason whatsoever. The ego then becomes in involved.
Alfred:
Yeah, and that's something you need to look at. If you keep trying something and it doesn't work, you keep trying something and it doesn't work, you keep trying something and it doesn't work... You have all these friends that keep doing the exact same thing, the lesson keeps getting presented to you over and over and over again. Take a look at it.
Hans:
Yeah. You know there's a saying Alfred that's out there today and I don't know why but it just cracks me up. But so many times in my career I've had to say to someone who is insisting that my teachings don't work for them, or this will never work, or this is too simplistic, or they need to have this change. And then I'll say: Okay, well how's that working for you? Are you winning that battle? Are you getting your point across? Are you affixing the changes you're trying to do? How's it working for you? And most of the time, Alfred, they will say: It's not. And Spirit will say: Then why do you keep trying it? Because I know, they say, that's where I'm supposed to be. You see? So that is their ego taking over responsibility for their life. If you are in a job and that job doesn't work for you, just simply doesn't work... you're not promoted when you should be, you don't get the respect from your peers, from the people at the top, if that isn't working for you, somebody tell me why in the world are you in that job? Why are you doing that to yourself?
Alfred:
And that's the hard one to understand is we're taught to push, to work through the stress...
Hans:
Right.
Alfred:
... to work through being tired.
Hans:
Well, you were taught that. And that's for sure.
Alfred:
Yes, yes. I had it drilled into me. What we're saying, spiritually speaking, that's human. And it's a choice whether to live your life according to human ways or if you want to find the reason you were born, to look at it from a spiritual perspective. If it's not working, then you're off your path.
Hans:
You're off your path. And if you're suffering in your work...
Alfred:
Then you're addressing it from human values, human thought, ego.
Hans:
Right:
Alfred:
If you're following our teachings, you'll understand – there is no suffering. That's a choice.
Hans:
That is a choice. You know Alfred, that's interesting you bring that up. A lot of times I have found that people feel that they're spiritual. People feel that they have the answer; they've grown spiritually. If you are suffering in any element, whether it's your work, a friendship, a job, you are not developed spiritually – period. No matter what you say to yourself, no matter how many lies you tell yourself, you are not. Because a true spiritual being knows there is nothing wrong – period. Nothing. So for all of you who are unhappy in the circumstances in your life, what a blessing. It is announcing to you it doesn't work, time to let go of your perceptions and open yourself up to that true spiritual nature of who you are and your life at that point will really begin to change. Alright, well that concludes the lesson for today.
